Customer Mission
DDOT’s mission is to provide public transit services that are reliable, clean, customer-focused, safe, and secure. The safety of its public transit passengers is paramount, and the DDOT must continually improve safety and security across its transit services. DDOT strives to capture incident and accident information for immediate response to protect riders and to develop solutions to mitigate future occurrences.
The Challenge
To continually improve safety and security transit-wide, the DDOT required a new and efficient way to track, monitor, and report on Security Incident Data. The Agency was looking for new technologies, workflow automation, and process improvements to replace legacy systems and manual methods while reducing operational costs. The ideal technology solution would capture and immediately route incident data to appropriate points of contact via an alert, allowing the Agency to react immediately to situations.
Alesig’s Solution
DDOT engaged Alesig to analyze and evaluate its current systems and identify desired efficiencies. In alignment with the Agency’s emphasis on the safety and security of transit passengers, we recommended, designed, and developed the Security Accident & Incident Logistics application. SAIL allows real-time data collection at the scene of an accident or security incident via a tablet device. We configured SAIL to capture data such as photographs, GPS coordinates, and mapping information using mobile technology, and enabled the app to transmit captured data immediately to the Agency. Using mobile technology, our approach reduces errors in data collection, eliminates redundancy, and enables automated alerts. Additionally, manual reporting and paperwork processing were significantly minimized, allowing Agency personnel and transit police to focus on more important concerns. SAIL also provides data reporting for trend analysis and features an offline mode in the event of a network connectivity issue.
We also applied Green IT techniques by coupling the application with cloud computing technologies. As a result, Alesig drastically reduced data communication and storage costs by minimizing IT hardware and eliminating needed floor space for the assets. We also achieved service and operational cost efficiencies for DDOT.
